There are people I remember
who have left an indelible mark on me.
Some left me with great insight
they helped shape who I have come to be.

Though most won’t ever know the gift they gave.
For it is often long after we realize it was wisdom afterall.
Sometimes by then they are gone from our lives
Sometimes who shared that wisdom with us we can’t recall.

How to honor such gifts I have been given
is a challenge this is true.
For the wisdom others have imparted on me
have helped me face tough times and often got me through.

Those kind and learned people
who were so generous with their time.
Have made me the man I am
making me think and opening up my mind

They made the effort to share with me
lessons they learned in life.
Lessons of what to reject and what to keep.
How to succeed by doing what’s right
